Chapter 1: The Meeting
The mist hung low over the emerald hills of ancient Ireland, veiling the land in a shroud of mystery. The air was thick with the promise of magic, a fitting backdrop for a tale that had yet to unfold. At the heart of this verdant expanse lay the shimmering Lake of Étaín, named after the legendary beauty who had once enchanted both men and gods.
Étaín, known for her ethereal beauty and gentle nature, often visited the lake that bore her name. She found solace in its tranquil waters, her reflection a constant reminder of her place in the world of the Tuatha Dé Danann. On this particular day, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of gold and crimson, Étaín felt a strange restlessness.
Her thoughts drifted back to the stories of her past—how she had been transformed into a butterfly, the many lives she had lived, and the love she had found and lost with the high king, Eochaid. Despite the tranquility of her surroundings, a sense of unease gnawed at her, as if the winds themselves whispered of coming change.
As she knelt by the water's edge, dipping her fingers into the cool liquid, a rustle in the nearby forest drew her attention. Emerging from the shadows was Macha, her fiery red hair catching the last rays of the sun, casting an almost otherworldly glow around her. Macha, the warrior goddess, was a stark contrast to Étaín. Where Étaín was serene and gentle, Macha was fierce and commanding.
